The Stepping Stone
This just too big of a stepping stone,
To everything I so badly wish to forget,
You’re unaware that you hold a key,
To a door I hate to open,
I live everyday terrified,
that I am broken beyond repair,
That no one will dare to stay,
Because I scream too many songs
filled with grief, pain, and bitter spite.
I stay close to the place,
where I feel most safe,
I feel him staring at my back,
As I walk along my roads
His face set in that expression
I’m far to familiar with,
It’s covered in ghostly shadowy figures
that I’ve fought to be unafraid of
His hand rests comfortably just above my trigger,
If his finger were to pass
and lightly touch it’s surface
I’d lose my composure and fall apart
And I can never tell anyone,
It’s reopening an old wound,
and drenching it in salt,
This is why I hesitate
it’s too big a stepping stone
to everything that makes me break.
