Stepping Stones Down
Waking up in emptiness as I glance and you are gone. Continually asking myself where it was that I went wrong. How can I face a world, when the wind howls your name in pain? When the sounds of the earth wail, and fill my eyes with tears of rain. Why are you everywhere, but next to me? When I turn on the radio I hear your name and I start to weep. Even in my dreams you are out of my reach, and even there you deny me of sleep, you deny me of peace. It still seems like I am always just one step behind. Don’t you want to laugh and cry, don’t you want to have what’s mine. In your coming you became the answer to my loneliness, and in your painfully close attachment to my soul you were the downfall of my heart. You stole my love, my life, and my instincts and hit me with cupid’s darts. I guess I really did fall when I met you. I hit the ground without making a sound, but broke every bone in the fall. How can I wake up in this broken state, without you to mend me and carry on? When you shattered my world you tore down all my walls as if they were nothing at all. I realize now in agony, as I scream your name and yell, as it echoes throughout time, it will constantly remind me that I was the only one that fell.
