Stereotypes

Why are we categorized

By the color of our skin

Instead of personalities

Coming from within

This generation is

So stereotypical

What would Jesus do

This is not biblical

These were not his intentions

This was not meant to be

Dr. King already told us

When he told us his dream

Why can’t I be black

Without needing to steal

Why can’t I be famous

Without needing to kill

Black people

Can still be good

Even if they do

Come from “the hood”

People say I act white

Well ignorance is bliss

If you have the shoe wear it

Only if it fits

How can I act white

What does that mean

Will I be prone to success

With pockets full of green

Since I’m classified as white

I guess my skin isn’t black

I guess I’ll never pull a trigger

Or sell a bottle of crack

They say that’s what blacks do

They say we’re all the same

Now hearing this

It’s really all just a shame

Does the color of my skin

Change how I act

Is it just their opinion

Or is it really a fact

Does the darkness of my skin

Say that I can’t be good

That I can’t be successful

Because I was raised in the hood

Black is just a word

Actions speak louder than words

You have to voice your opinion

If you want to be heard

You have to want change

And equality too

If you want to change anything

You gotta start with you

I read that Willie Lynch letter

He foreshadowed events

Introduced this ignorance

It’s been happening ever since

Black on black crimes

They used it for the slaves

We need to stop now

These are different days

This is self-hatred

We’re all the same

Don’t hate the player

Hate the game

We’re on the news everyday

We’re killing each other

We’re supposed to be family

Siblings from another mother

Forget the hate

Forget these gangs

Yall killing each other

Over some names

Allow no man

To belittle your soul

By making you hate them

The world is cold

If ignorance is our master

There will be no peace

Until this self-hatred

Begins to cease

Black on black crime

Needs to stop

We need to help each other

Make it to the top

The Klu-Klux-Klan

Still exists

But in this time

They’re having a hit

You’re doing their job

And having their fun

When will this ignorance

Finally be done

When will you realize

You’re destroying society

And killing every little

Hope of equality
