Stereotypes- Cheerleaders

Narrow-minded, ignorant, idealistic assumptions people across the Nation have gathered about this particular clique lack any factual information. The horrible he said she said factor influences others to be swayed into believing things that are not quite true. Imagery filled with bleached extensions, sea blue hazy perception, bronzed outer shell, under nourished, anorexic, gullible, ignorant version of a human being. Materialistic, heartless bitch, with the soul of Satin, inspired to bring down anyone that steps in this gut punching, dream stomping, heart-wrenching person’s life. Family is a top priority of every celebrities A-list event VIP list, parents drive vehicles equivalent to the house of an upper-middle class family, and their ninety eight square foot mansions are paved with gold walkways. Vines draped the statues of Greek gods in the gardens surrounded a private helicopter pad that the family can enjoy as they stare over their private balcony sipping wine, and thinking how enjoyable it is to be a member of this family. Specific gender for this sport has been a topic of discussion for a while and while most people see Cheerleading as a female sport, anyone can participate, and should not be criticized based on their gender. Race has been clarified as generally being among the white population, having been a pom-pom waving snot nosed brat myself, I can tell you from experience that is not true. I have been on teams in remotely whitely raced dominated area in Reno, Nevada that consist of colored team members. In some schools you can look Cheerleading up under the “clubs” section. Unfortunately, Athletes that participate in other sports see Cheerleading the same way. This sport has advanced a great deal from the basic chants, pom-pom waving, and claiming cart wheels as tumbling. Currently, the difficulty has risen to another level. Stunting, jumping, and tumbling take strength, skill, effort, practice, and time. With all the frustration, annoyance, and danger when everything comes together all becomes worth it in the end; determination is key. The community has put forth a great deal of time, effort, and diarrhea of the mouth to accomplish promoting this stereotype forthcoming to this rare form of talent. Cheerleaders have unwillingly received multiple negative views, condescending support, and frowned up on even by the media. Although, this particular group of people are not Saints by any means; Cheerleaders intentions have been commonly misinterpreted. Media: Television shows, movies, and magazines interpret the idea that Cheerleading is not a sport, support society’s view on Cheerleaders (even if it is wrong), and there is not much skill involved in participating in it. Media portrays the thought that this sport is something different from what it really is. Bring it on; the whole movie is about a High School Senior, white female, not a good student, with a well to do family; whose sole purpose is focused on her squad competing at the National level. The movie fits all the stereotypes that society has impacted among this group, which influences anyone interested in this film to think that this movie is based off factual information instead of one person’s idea (the producer). Someone this age should be focused on graduating, moving on to College, and not to be solely focused on Cheerleading. Stereotypes are given to us from one person to another. We are all just as guilty of dishing out what we are given, whether it is a joke or not. The problem with this is that Stereotypes are base off of what society’s view on the topic is and if we are all guilty of doing this it is hard to change it. Realistically the process of handing out Stereotypes like free bubble gum is a vicious repetitive cycle that does not end. The consequences of these stereotypes is that the sport itself (Cheerleading) is not being seen for what it truly is and the individuals who participate in it (Cheerleaders) are not being taken seriously. Also, these people are not respected or looked up on as role models. Cheerleaders are athletes and they make it a priority to work out, eat right, and live a healthy life style; those are the type of people to look up to. Celebrities who drink too much, party too hard, or spend too much time brawling with the paparazzi over taking pictures of themselves are not people to look up to. Also, the media should promote leadership to those who are truly making a difference. The younger less matured population should be led on the correct path toward those types of responsible people. That will make for a better society in general. The result of all this madness has led to an overall false interpretation that the community has created and the athletes are paying for it mentally. In order for this Stereotype to no longer be what other people are saying it is, Cheerleaders everywhere will have to prove those people wrong.
