Still Here

I pause, take a breath, breathe- Look at the rubble surrounding Me and mine. A twister came through, And I’m still here. I’m still breathing, In and out, in and out, A steady rhythm. A twister came through, And I’m not in Oz. I pause, swivel, turn- Breathe and gaze and learn Devastation of the mind. A twister came through, And I’m still here. I’m still breathing, In and out, in and out, A steady rhythm. A twister came through, And left me in its wake. I pause, stock still, stone- Take in the song Of survivors. They chant: A twister came through, And we’re still here. We’re still breathing, As one, in and out, A steady rhythm- Like a heartbeat. A twister came through, And ravaged our homes, And disappeared into dust. A twister came through, And we are still alive.
