A Stone Far too Heavy to Throw

As two dancing petals in a chill breeze pass me by,
I wonder what it is I hold so dear,
what would I cling to, what do I NEED.
and I realized what it is, that which I hold so tight-
the object of my affections, which to lose is my greatest Fear.

It is but a simple object, yet it's quite queer-
Its surface is dull and smooth, from torrents that poured 'round it.
its color is that color of a sky with no stars,
and its weight is not so great I could not hurl it away,
and yet, if I were to try and throw it, it would not leave my hand, this queer little river stone I bear.
