Stone Poem

I was part of this larger being, once
But I had to break away one day
Not by choice,
but by forces out of my control
At first, I was jagged,
My edges sharp and ready to defend
Over many years,
I’ve been weathered down by outsiders
They smoothed my edges
Occasionally, I am struck
I lose parts of myself that I will likely never see again
    But I remain strong… solid,
Never forgetting what I was—
   Where I came from
       And who I am

I am the stone
I am Bethany
