Stop pretending

Dear Self,

It’s really difficult for me to come home, you know that.

As I open the refrigerator, I see no food.

The cabinets have been almost cleared out.

As I progress to the bathroom I see remnants of shampoos and soaps, used in such a manner as if they were gold.

The toothpaste is almost gone, toilet paper appears to be a rare luxury.

Mom tells you of her new system for laundry, so that she do not have to carry that cost of it.

Her car insurance is late, somehow rent was paid, and she cannot pay her credit cards.

Yet, you sit here and forget for a moment just where your background is.

At school you let yourself forget, not working as many hours at your job as you should.

Because you should be sending home money to your mom, but you’re not.

I’m disappointed in you.

Work harder, work smarter. Choose to help, please do.

Because if you don’t,

you’ll always regret it.

The poor girl you’ve always been
