Storm

Because warmth because
happiness that makes me blush
makes falling asleep easier

Like claws piercing my ribs a stick jabs into my heart
because I'm here and you're there

Your parents are insane
They've killed a pig, they say
and its insides are rotted and
lo from inside comes a plague–
a storm that will not let us be

Your parents are insane
they claw at the air, they strike
you in their fury.
In the distance, locusts, distant humming
Closer, screaming!
A mad swarm smashes through the window
In tumbles the fall breeze
Like an afterthought
It cartwheels by in a haze of dry leaves
and hay

I gesture to you across the bed
and our tears glide across the sheet,
we fall together a
whirlpool chasm torrent abyss
super-nova void
warm and salty and
arid
Warm.

Because I love you
Because I love you

and you love me
I will hold your hand
Each finger soft and warm
well-manicured in the evening glow
I will listen to you, I will hear you
The storm may never end
The swarm will come again

You and I
