A Storm Is On Its Way
One could tell, a storm was well on its way
When birds ceased their melodious song
When skies turned to twilight from what was day
When it was clear to the eye something was wrong
One could tell, a storm was soon to arrive
When leaves shivered from winds pulling clouds astray
When cats clawed at screen doors hoping to hide
When great oak tree trunks bowed, twisted and swayed
One could tell, a storm was mere moments from here
When clotheslines whipped and lost their cargo
When a mute flash of light snaps and rears
When the crack of thunder follows not long ago
And indeed it stormed, but only for a moment
The great beast left nothing but plants damp and content
