A story for the Broken
Let me tell you a story
That very few really know.
About a broken teenage girl,
Facing the world all on her own.
She has closed herself off from any emotions
Because anything she feels,
Tends to leave her in pain.
Her family has no clue.
Although they pretend to understand,
The wars she is fighting inside her own mind.
“Ignore them” They tell her
She wants to scream.
“It’s not that easy.”
Instead, she smiles a fake smile.
And laughs a false laugh.
“Done.” She says
They all nod and go on their day,
Leaving her to drown in her own rising tide,
Without a backward glance.
Now this was the cycle she wanted to end.
She decided no more,
If she couldn’t feel the emotions,
The painful aftershock would never come.
She lived her life like this,
Day after day,
No signs of a weakness
Nobody got in;
Nobody dared try.
What she became was a nightmare,
A soldier with no heart.
When her family moved on,
She fell into a group of girls.
They pulled the last bit of humanity out of her.
She let her guard down,
Until she felt her control begin slipping away,
She tightened her leash
Shoved the girls right back out
She didn’t like being seen
Not even a bit
With some coaxing and caring
The girls unknowingly did.
She opened once more
But careful and cautious
Only special people could see
The question at hand,
Who is this said girl?
The answer is simple.
That girl is all me.
