A Story Never Told

They tell us about the events; when did it happen, why did it happen.

They tell us about the sacrifice; what people endured to come to this country, why it was worth it.

But that's not enough.

The history books don't explain how it felt for my mom to come to America with 300 dollars in her pocket,

Never knowing if she'd have money for her next meal, everyday wondering

"Was this the American Dream that everyone had talked about?"

The history books don't illustrate how for years, the guilt of leaving her country, and the shock of a hard life wore her down here in America.

They tell us about the freedom; not the pain endured.

She made her own success story in America though, so I guess not all of the stories in the textbooks were wrong.

I guess sometimes the history books are right.
