A Story to Tell

I come home crying after something tragic just happened Someone took something precious to me and left me feeling used and bruised The scars he gave me i couldn't hide Tears roled down my eyes and they wouldn't dry I ran to my mom and hugged her for protection She hugged me back with her face filled with confusion I tried to tell her what happened back in the alley But my sobbing made it difficult for me And I told her how he touched me and molested me How i pleaded and cried while he kept on thrusting in me She asked me, "why didn't you fight back?" I answered, "i couldn't! i got hit by a bat then my vision turned black!" She told me, "you were probably flaunting your body while you were walking" And i protested," i wasn't! I was wearing baggy jeans while running!" She told me,"you were probably enjoying it that's why no one helped" And i protested," we were in an alley late at night! No one heard me cry for help!" And i scream, " why can't you understand that it's not my fault?!" "I didn't ask for sexual assault!" "I never wanted this to happen!" "I never wanted to feel this broken!" And this one of the reasons why victims stay hidden They can't say their stories because no one is believing them If they say it immediately, they're asking for attention If they say it later, they'll be hated for not telling it sooner For those who are hiding in fear Come out and we will listen to the stories you will share Those who don't care will leave And stay unaware of the danger out there But us who knows the feeling of hell will stay and listen and care So don't be afraid for this feeling will end We soon will find peace and will forget this event For we are soldiers with battle scars and stories to tell To help young souls from walking the same hell
