Strained and Veined

Strained and Veined

Listen quiet and then you will hear, especially when you are filled with fear.

The palpitations that follow one another as do soldiers in line, you cannot help but wonder is it mine?

That creak on your window or the thump upon the door-- makes you grasp your breath as your heart begins to roar.

Your face becomes white as a corpse in rigor and all the sudden your eyes trace out a figure.

Your veins begin to constrict, your hands saturated in perspiration, your heart begins to scream for some consolation.

As the stranger is approaching, you then see something that could not be.

Trapped in your own subconscious you become a slave, unable to do anything brave.

Your heart is in one place, but your mind in another.

All of a sudden you’re the one being smothered.
