The Strange

The Strange lurk in the shadows
they stare at the malicious world
they know something that no one else knows
they know that they don’t know
and that is so
they don’t know why the world is so cold

The Strange don’t  know why

Why women agonize to be anorexically skinny
go to Africa’s starving children they’ll give you some pity

Why men murder one another for land and oil,
deserting their families at home, to rot and spoil

why teens drop out of school like flies
while you try to fill them with apocryphal lies

why people lament for pathetic things
for nothing that really stings

innocent people with a razor at hand slitting their wrist
wishing they were dead all because of what you said

they can’t continue, they can’t persist
there is a tear for you to shed, I insist

why billions die every day for a lost cause,
need time to think about that?
let me pause.

The Strange is in you, The Strange is in me
cant you see?
but you’ve got to let it out, set it free

but you can’t do that because you are drowning in a sea
a sea of people who silence you
they can’t handle the truth
they try to figure you out, a hopeless sleuth

they try to assure you that that everything in the world is fine
that there is no need to speak my mind, or say my rhymes

I speak the truth and the truth is this
but your sick ignorance is your masochistic bliss

when I start a conversation of our nations desperation
their ignorant frustration starts their detonation
I am put into a situation with a plethora of complications

they tell me it’s my half-baked teenage imagination to blame for my idiotic exploitation
they blame me for their own stupid infatuation with my isolation

they try to shut me up, but I won’t hold my tongue
The Strange cannot be silenced they are the voice of the young
they will raise their voice until they rip a lung

they protest in choir, only stopping when righteousness is acquired
when their brows have perspired and the ignorant have been inspired
and it has transpired that all good has been aspired
that is when we will retire

But until then,

you cannot bring us down,
we will not die,
no matter how hard you try

in our time of need we are the only ones who can see what’s wrong
we revive the dead,
not with brutal lies
but singing our beautiful words of rescuing wisdom instead

we are the future, we are the change

I am,

we are,

known as,
The Strange
