Strangers
Ready for love, I am not,
Not the kind of love that we can't take back,
I'm not ready to be someone's significant other,
Ready to love the way my parents do, with respect,
I do not want to question love,
In the race for forever, other than gold isn’t it a test for less?
The possibility of repressing makes me sick,
Regretting giving over every part of me,
I thought my body was mine, to someone I love that's fine,
I thought my body was mine, and it should be,
It should be a representation of your love, no more common than conversation,
Sweet, polite, and awkward but in the silence, you can hear butterflies,
Did he stare so far into your eyes you thought he knew that you knew he was the one?
It was fun but it also made sense and you were laughing and chatting cause it is a sexual conversation with our bodies,
And if you can't speak to me then my body has nothing to say to you.
You were drowning under until he kissed you on the cheek and he asked you if you felt like talking,
When you cried out for help he didn’t think it was sexy, he thought you needed saving,
He loves your body when you wear a dress,
He told you he liked the gray one best, actually he told you eight times, and you never even asked,
His hands weren’t on your body they were in your hair,
He looks across the table at family dinners and just stares,
When it's raining he places you on the grass and takes off, his shoes and yours too and you dance,
In summertime you travel, last year in Belize he took you to a facility that helps kids with AIDs and HIV,
Because he is genuine and if he cares about others he must really love me,
He took you out to eat, with his grandma for breakfast, right after church,
He made it through the whole sermon without looking at you so you know he has restraint, and patience too,
When I ask what he’s thinking he goes in deep, and I dive down,
He tells me about his dreams, he’s not shallow,
Maybe there is no guy like this for me,
But I would rather stay a virgin, then waste my body on a man,
Who thinks that sex is better than a chance to hold my hand.
Its true sex is probably chilling but sex with the right person is worth reliving,
How do I know? I don't, but I have stood
In the freezing cold winters,
Felt icicles for rain,
Swam in 31-degree water,
And still, the only thing that has made me feel colder,
Is imagining being cold, barenaked against a stranger.
