Strangers
The cars pass, and I envy all of them
Beautiful strangers all rushing to their lives
I wish I could join them,
But I’m stuck
I’m trapped inside my mind,
Tumbling down the rabbit hole,
Endlessly tossed back and forth,
Drowning in my brain waves
If you were here, you’d probably make me smile,
Reach over the ugly table and grasp my hand,
Foolishly convince me everything will be okay
But you’re not here,
And I’m alone
My eyes sting and my body is numb
I feel like a Pink Floyd song,
But if you were here you’d make me feel like a Beatles song
Smoke lingers in the air and whiskey stings my throat
Why does one month feel like an eternity
If I could,
I’d abandon my life and drive straight to you,
But life never stops for anyone
The days are slow,
The hours painful
You need to be here,
But you aren’t
I wish we were both strangers again
Neither of us having any idea what we’re getting into
