Strawberry Blonde

Her hair was the sun as it set under the auburn sky

And her ears were a hairclip

Her eyes were the immense blue sky

And the Caribbean beach water traveling to the horizon

And the diamond every jewel thief longs for

Her teeth were the elephant’s ivory tusks

And her mouth was the open closet in a dark room

And her lips were the first

Her laugh was an amphitheater

And her sense of humor was mine

Her cheeks were chipmunks in winter

Her mind was the Great Depression

And her thoughts were the chaos theory

Her arms were Clelia’s in block letters

Her stories were the Chemistry stairs

And the pit you dare not go near

Her hands were velvet

And her fingernails were a clam lover’s dream

And her heart was the Grinch at climax

Her emotions were the stock market

And her love was the Rose of Sharyn

Her truth was stolen candy from a child

And her trust was the nurse with Schoelfield

Her legs were the threads of a skirt

And her feet were the canvas ROY G. BIV

Her skin was a brown April shower

Her hope was the song of choice

The last time he saw her, Groundhog’s day syndrome.

His love for her was Poland against the German Army;

And she knew the odds were Rudy’s tragedy.
