Strawberry Smoke
Your name on my lips for the first time in months.
Im so nervous
because it doesnt feel real
like the strawberry smoke that gets caught in the tangles of my hair
scratches at the inside of my lungs
and burns me from the inside out
and reminds me of you
and how i am afraid to speak
because my words are scorching
and burns my throat with my nervousness
like tequila
like what i imagine tequila taste like
starting bitter on the tongue and warms like honey
on the walls of my throat getting hotter
is burning me
makes me shove a lime between my teeth
biting back my words
as it settles and I can feel it
hot and heavy there
unatural and strange but wanted
and I want you to go away
like the flavor of your aftertaste
behind my teeth
on my tongue
until there isn't a trace of you left
but you're still there like the strawberry smoke
still caught in the tangles of my hair.
