Streetlight
The streetlight calls me
draws me like a moth to the flame
and I am neither awake nor am I asleep
but I must go.
The midnight mantel of hazy velvet
smothers the silent lawns
as the dew descends to the grass
to greet the next dawn.
The bright and noisy day
Roaring cars, roaring people
bright light and shining laughter
will come. But not now.
One bright shining in a world of dark
peering in my window
A sphere of fire whispers the secret
of the night. Calling me.
And I must go.
