When I heard what she went through
I know she had what it took to make it
through a hard, cruel world.
When you looked into her eyes
you saw all the pain a little girl went through
Losing her mother to cancer
Being beat by her drunken father
Never having a hand to hold on to.
And now, a young woman, she stands
as strong as any other 'normal' person.

When I heard what he went through
I know he had what it took to go where he wanted
To reach the reality of his dreams
To make his fantasy come alive.
Where he used to stand in the play box outside his house
wondering when his mother would return to the small, abandoned home.
So he could eat and maybe have one nights sleep.
And now, a young man, he stands holding up one hand to the sky
saying I made it! I made it! I made it!

Proving to the world you can own up.
Showing them what your passion is made of.
Helping them understand what you are capable of doing,
Traveling the deepest seas and the widest deserts
Never giving up shows the strength one has for themselves.

And now, that young woman, now an elderly lady,
She sits in her rocking chair, in the middle of the room,
With her grandchild on her knee. Telling the little girl what Grandma
went through at her age.
Telling the significance of her story and how she came out on top.
About her near death experiances and how she learned she could
push through and be whatever she wished to be.
This aged woman. Still that scared little girl at heart.
Knows the compassion she carries within her.
She knows how love can change a life.
She understands.

And now, that young man, now an elderly groom.
Walks through the weeds with his grandchild galloping on his shoulders.
Telling the young boy what his Grandpapa went through as a youngster.
How many times he wanted to give up and lay in the field.
But that he pushed through and went for his dreams.
His dreams to become a champion.
The champion of his life.
He hopes his little man can be proud of the grandpa he has.
He hopes he made good choices so his little man
will know what to do when life throws rocks at you.
"Strength is where you'll find the truth in what's there, little man."
