Strength vs Perceived Strength

Job Corps

We sat on the curb

Your girlfriend broke up with you

Being a good friend

I consoled you

You started to cry

I was embarrassed

I told you there was no need for that

We’re both men

Men don’t cry

You responded with indignation

Saying that if you are sad

You will cry

You will not hide your feelings

I was struck

Over a decade later

I still reflect on your strength

On my weakness

I’m forever thankful

As I learned from that moment

What it looks like

When a person loves themselves
