Strike One Too Many

"Mamma", I ask one dark and stormy night.
"Why is thunder so scary?"
She looks over at me, a small smile plays on her lips
"It's not, its just the sound of the angels bowling"
I look up at the night sky, a flash sears beyond my eyelids, and try to justify this in my small mind.
Perhaps the flash is when the lights go off for a strike?
But then I think to myself that this reason does not make it any less terrifying.

I'm a few years older now.
I no longer jump into my parent's bed.
Instead, I lie still and frozen in my own.
Boom! Clash!
My windows shake, so little space between myself and the outside world.
And yet, I am stronger now, braver as I pray to my God to stop this storm.
After all, who better to stop the angels from bowling than their own Father.
"Amen."
