String
Dear string,
How clever you are to present your intertwined self
As a whole.
Same ball of yarn, a million different scarves
Return to the same obstacle to relive it
Guiding seamstress warriors
That see battle waged over and over upon memory,
Women that knit through time,
Traveling back to when it was the string that whispered for them to continue on.
Retelling their history in strands,
For anyone who seeks to know it.
In and out,
She knits out the life she had under Japanese occupation.
Twist,
She sewed her place into the fabric of American society.
Pull,
To them I am bound by string.
Needle, hook, needle.
Different weapons,
Same opponent--myself.
The string is stronger than the needle,
It waits for my command.
