Strings

How easy it is to lose what we cling to!

How fragile, these shining lives, how easily extinguished,

yet how beautiful.

Our bones - reliable, powerful, wonderfully crafted,

are but toothpicks

to the great hammers of war and rage.

We are strong enough to build, to protect,

but our strength to destroy is ever greater.

Our hope - the light that guides us forward into each new day,

can be hidden from us

by a single sentance, nay, even

by the lack of one.

By a silence after "I love you."

Our very society - everything we've ever known,

could crumble in the time of one horrible day.

At the turning of a few keys, the pressing of a button

to kill the world.

That could have happened, really happened.

We are marionettes held together by these strings.

O! that I might dance such a beautiful dance...

But we must brave this storm of blades

or be cut down

lifeless.
