Strokes and Dabs

Symbols, letters, words

Tiny strokes and dabs that make-up the massive

masterpiece of Language

A powerful tool that can take your breath

away

metaphorically, as in the lips of

a child forming their first words

“mama”

“dada”

and literally.

As in Hitler’s hate-filled heart pumping blood

to a tongue that spits

words of poison

into the listening ear

“inferior race”

“subhuman”

brush strokes meant to paint a picture

of a people

colors meant to distort the image

of a people

meant to erase

and to replace them

with insects

because when the time comes

no one will object to

exterminating

bothersome bugs

These words are tools

incredible tools with power to take your

breath away

can you see that

our words are

powerful

beyond our

comprehension?

that it is impossible to wrap our minds

around  the immense power

held by the tiny words

that perch on the tips of

tongues?

Are we blind to our

own paintings

of pictures of a people

Can’t we see our own

colors distorting the image

of a people

Let us open our eyes

and look closely

at the brush strokes

on our canvases

Because symbols, letters, words

are all tiny strokes and dabs

in the massive masterpiece of

Language

A powerful tool that can take your breath

away
