A Strong Captured People
Taken from a land you once loved
The pain and sorrow had yet to begin
A strange new people arrive
On boats the waves they ride
Over the oceans you’ve been brung from so far
Unwillingly yes, but strong people you are
Your compliance is what they want
To be there working people
If you refuse to do there work
They’ll beat you down till you hurt
You are beaten too you bleed you want to scream
Lashes on your back they’re trying to break you
Change your name they try to make you forget you’re you
You want to run but your body is in pain a lot at stake
Your loved ones have been dragged away
They’re being sold
Your family, love, and freedom is worth more than gold
You’ve taken pain I couldn't bare to take
Dazing in to the sky
Watch the birds fly oh how you wish you were free
Looking out thinking how life could be
They try to break you down again so they cut the hair that lies upon your head
Beautiful you are I know you’re scared you have cried many tears
You deserve to be free like anyone else out there
Praying for a savior
Held against your will something you wished you didn’t have to bare
You’re beautiful and you want to be free
You feel trapped in a prison but you’re outside among the trees
You look in the field all you see is white
Look far out there’s nothing but woods brown and green
You’re eager to run but you’ll be caught
Looking around you see men on horses
Wait till the dark of night you and your people will run
Even if you hear a gun you’ll run
Days, nights, no sleep, being chased, cold of night you’ll fight and fight
In the South you head to the North
Run and run so you can finally be free and enjoy the world
Your destination is closed Blink of an eyes you’ve made it
You’re finally free you feel you can fly tears in your eyes
The sun hits your perfect brown skin
You’re free at last you beauty being
