A Strool Before Bed


The cold air hits me, my breath to bright steam My friend looks up, smiling, asking to wander We walk, speaking through trust, close like a team I stop, as does he, me stuck in ponder He comes close; nudging me, “there is more to go” I agree, then walk through more moonlight beams We hop the warm stream, mimicking its flow All is quiet, all our friends asleep, as it seems We freeze, hear the call, it echoes inside us Distant, yet closer than even our bond Our link to it, build through time, like a truss He speaks, as it did, I look and respond As it howls, in return, the sound staying with us We go home, back upstairs and the moon’s light shines in
