Struck by Lightning (the wrong kind of spark)

I wrote you a sidewalk chalk poem;

the rain came and washed it away.

My attempts to serenade at your window,

Were drowned out by the storm’s loud affray.

The roses I left at your doorstep,

were all taken up by the wind.

These elemental protests to my romance,

left me soaking, annoyed, and chagrined.

I pressed on through the storm of the night,

but the tempest refused to give way.

I found that, despite my great love,

nature shall have final say.
