The Struggle

People look at me And have an idea based on what they see They expect me to start speaking as if I grew up on the streets of Harlem But little do they know, I will not harm them They expect my family to be poor My father to have walked out the door My mother to have several father's to her children And for her never to be married And.. Wait Lte's back track And take a look at what I lack Because I'm not who you want me to be Living in Sachem all of my life With little to no sturggle or strife My father is married to my mother his wife My sisters are fare Oh you find that rare? Why? Because I'm black I am an African American I am what should be in your mind trouble But listen up I'm going to make you double Think what your thoughts are On you On life On people My ancestors fought just as long and hard as yours did They went through war and hate So that we would have a better fate Look at what you've done! Blame me for what my parents have won They struggled and fought just like you and yours But of course! You don't see it that way! All you want to try to do is make me pay For something I embrace Don't kid yourself This isn't about race My skin may be lighter And I'm truly not a fighter I have my insecurities too Just like you Let's be fair And talk about something maybe you'd like to share If you have a dream follow it Why sit? On your butt and wait for something to be handed to you So that all you can care about is your cars and your shoes Why not put down the stereotype Live a different life Be something more than what people want you to be Maybe then you will see what I see Another person Another human being Another girl or guy that has friends So let's make ammends I've fought long and hard enough And dealt with alot of stuff I am tired of fighting with the people I am fighting for The people my ancestors fought with to start a revolution The revolution we are letting die Both you and I Have all the power in the world To stop the blame And all the shame If every single person can make a change That would rearange Our America.
