The struggle of depression

I look in the mirror And what do I see? A shell of the man That I used to be... My eyes are empty My smile almost gone, In a room full of people I still feel all alone... I put on a mask To hide all the pain, But underneath it all The scars still remain... The thing about masks No one cares to see, Is that a mask is a picture Of who you want to be... You want to be happy But don't know if you can, You keep on searching For a helping hand... You search and you search But there's no one around, You feel like a swimmer That's starting to drown... You've worn this facade And kept it all in, Now this temporary mask Is your permanent skin... You try to remove it And it just won't let go, The more that you try The more the bond starts to grow... You try for transparency And look for a hand, But sometimes it feels like They don't understand... They don't understand How it feels inside, To feel like a modern day Jekyll and Hyde... Like Dr. Jekyll You're both cunning and smart, But when you turn into Hyde It comes crumbling apart... You feel like you living You life with a stranger, You constantly feel like Your life is in danger... But it's just an illusion That's what other's say, They think that you're crazy For feeling this way... Crazy or not the fact still remains, That your not really crazy or even insane... You're hurting You're hiding, You just want to be free To just be the person you've been longing to be...
