The Struggle is Real

Come home from college

with no job

I want to go back to school.

Friends want to hang out

but I am broke

so I stay home

all alone.

The streets are too dangerous

violence here and there.

I take solace in sewing,

sewing and singing

eat and sleep.

Repeat.

Still no money

one month passes

jobs don't answer.

Unpaid internships that ask for too much.

Depression.

No longer wanting to wake up,

unfinished projects,

uneaten food.

No sun in sight

I've lost my friends,

I've lost my will

and I still have no money.

Mama threatening to stop paying

dreams gone down the drain.

I'll become another statistic

because the struggle is real.

Like my fore fathers used to sing

I shall overcome someday !
