The Struggle Within

Words sit on my tongue

Words that I can’t verbalize

I want to say them, but I can’t

How do I articulate my feelings?

Blowing pain

Twisting, bending, winding through my mind

Glistening tears roll down my cheeks

How do I articulate my feelings?

My tongue disobeys

Sitting silently in my mouth

My throat constricts

Trying to force out sound

But I can’t

How do I articulate my feelings?

I listen to everyone around me

Communicating, speaking, laughing, crying

I try to mimic the noises

I try to say what is on my mind

But I can’t

How do I articulate my feelings?

Communication is what strengthens relationships

So I try

I mouth words in the mirror

But there is no sound behind them,

No strength

How do I articulate my feelings?

I feel childish, pointing to what I want

I feel immature, gaping when greeted

I feel useless, unable to assist

How do I articulate my feelings?

My pain grows, swallowing up every thought

It wells behind my eyes,

Turning into crystal tears

It constricts my throat even more,

Making it tight and rough

How do I articulate my feelings?
