Strung together

Words strung together by frail string

Many years have worn it down

But it still keeps going on and on

Words are knotted into sentences

They all intertwine into my story

A book with a flimsy skin cover

Not many people take the time

To look at my torn old pages

They just glance at my surface

The mask I wear to hide the truth

My grades must mean I'm smart

But they don't see all that takes

The many sleepless nights and

Constant criticism from myself

Using studying all day to ignore

The pain of not being wanted

My body is 'small' so I must love it

But they don't see what I've done

The countless meals I didn't eat

The words that pierced my mind

It didn't matter what was lost

I could never be 'small' enough

My tears must mean I'm weak

But they don't see how I changed

I've worked so hard to get here

Ive waged wars with myself

Using swords made of letters

It took years but I finally won

If only they would take the time

To read every detail of my story

They'd never see me the same way

Each word in my life displays

How I've fought to become

Who I am
