Strung Together by Dreams

I am a line from a song that speaks to you,

That understands you in your darkest moments,

That takes you to another place and time,

A memory you could never forget even if you tried.

I am from the people in passing cars with faces I may never see again.

I am the girl that has a hard time saying goodbye.

Chasing cars up the street just to say it one last time.

I am from the middle of the road where I lay with my best friend,

To find what it is like to feel alive.

I am from the place where laughter is always ringing in my ears.

I am from the place where words left unsaid are heard.

I am from the sound of rain hitting the pavement,

Creating a symphony of saddness.

I am the girl that dances around the house when no one is home,

Singing at the top of her lungs.

I am the girl with the same best friends since sixth grade.

I am from the place where your name, height or weight do not matter.

I am from my brain matter stained kitchen cabinet,

Where my life changed in an instant.

I am the girl that gets lost in bookstores filled with stories,

And words that can change the world.

I am from the writer's pen posied at attention,

Ready to tell a story on that blank piece of paper.

I am from the desks of writers that have come before me,

And the beautiful pages that surround it.

I am from messy hair and comfy beds,

I am from the land of happy days and sad nights,

I am from little bits of magic overlooked by others in a flea market.

I am a train ticket to nowhere.

I am from the places I have only visited in my dreams.

I am from Wednesday nights laughing next to the love of my life,

And Sunday mornings sneaking glances at the boy next to me.

I am from the pain you get in your stomach when you laugh too hard.

I am from an empty museum on a Tuesday,

Alone with the pieces of art work as the artist was when they created it.

I am from the feeling of lifting my hands in the air,

Feeling the wind slip through my fingers.

I am from the exhilarating feeling right before I walk out onto that stage.

I am from the land of the terrifying and wonderful experiences,

That are everything to a girl like me.

If you are looking for me in a dictionary you won't find me,

I can't be pinned down or described in so many words.

And that's ok with me.

I am a piece of the universe, strung together by dreams.
