Stuck Between Two Worlds
I walk down the street and you stare at me
too scared to speak to me in Spanish
oblivious to my culture
and why, because me skin is white
You call me guerrita, you push me away
my own people reject me because my skin is not brown like theirs
and is it my fault that I am pale and have freckles?
and is it my fault that you don't know I'm a part of you?
I am Mexican-American
I speak your same language, I eat your same food
I live in your neighborhood, so don't think that I'm white
But you don't see that, all you see is my face
I am neither here nor there
I cannot talk to you or the white folks
Where do I belong? Am I white like you say I am
or am I who my parents told me I was?
The reality of me is who I want to be, I am my own person
I am part of you
even if you can not see it yet
I'll show you, I am who I was born to be
don't push me away because I will come back
Watch out here I come to take my identity back
