Stuck on Stupid

Why, when I think of you, do I think of everything in this world that matters?

As if everything of yours propels me into purpose

Poisoning my mind and soul

Drowning my thoughts with deep desire

But halting me from diving into action

Since your shallow waters have evolved into deep seas

The boat I sail on has proven to be too weak for your waves

Why does my heart ache for you?

Why, when I pass you, do a million memories run through my mind?

And why do I choose to let them slip away?

Could it be your arrogance

Or your conceited, selfish character

Or that stupid half smile you make when you don't know what to say

Topped with those captivating eyes that stare into mine

Maybe it's how you know me so well

I never thought someone who admired my strengths so much would use my weaknesses against me

And my prominent weakness-- the love I have for you

You know exactly how to strengthen it without even lifting a finger

As if the tiny nonexistent fibers that tie me to you

Turn into steel cables that drag me by my feet

All of this you do, with such grace

Without effort, without intrinsic motivation for it

When did things get so complicated between us?

Why did it? When did we let the love slip away from us,

Beyond our control Into the hands of some other couple

Beginning to fall into our same footsteps

And do they know the ending?

Are they positive of the outcome?

The pain and suffering that will accompany a broken heart

The mental addiction they ache to get back

And how soon will it tumble?

How much time do they have?

Until they become just like us--

Lost, confused, and inconsolable
