The Student

(poems go here) A student's head is filled with things To calculate and study There is no time to socialize No hanging out with buddies. Some take the path of a social life And let their schoolwork slide Some try to balance what they do They're only along for the ride. There are those who don't much Who don't even have to try They coast through coursework They don't realize that college is nigh Hard work is the only thing worth doing The only thing that will give you your way. In school you don't have to think that it's real But we have to be prepared for the rest of our days. I write because I want to succeed I write because it helps with my brain Mem'rizing and thinking and working out rhymes With nothing to lose and everything to gain Poetry has sharpened my mind To remember and think for myself This is why I write what I write and when And why I don't simply put it back on the shelf. I cannot take out the words that I find in my head Any more than take off my skin Perhaps they're not creative, or good, But they jump out like they always have been.
