As A Student

As a student, complaints about the system are inevitable.

The food, homework, tests, friends, teachers.

The complaints are endless, but they are spoken for a reason.

As a student, I am supposed to show up to school energized and ready to learn.

How can I do that if I’m doing homework until two in the morning?

As a student, I am supposed to listen to the teachers and ask questions when I am confused.

Why would I ask questions and endure the public humiliation of not understanding the “simple” concept of  Trigonometric Identities and how 1 watt equals 1 joule per second which equals 0.738 feet times a pound per second “just because it does”.

As a student, I am supposed to follow the dress code.

Girls can’t wear V necks that show “too much” and they can’t wear shorts or skirts that are “too distracting”.

It’s 115 degrees outside, but I have to wear jeans to stay in dress code.

“You can wear capris” administrators will tell.

Why would I wear clothes that make me self-conscious?

As a student, I am supposed to understand the information given to me.

How am I supposed to do that when I’m just given the homework and told to “google what you don’t understand.”

As a student, I’ve learned that school is not about gaining knowledge anymore.

School is about passing.
