Student perspective

I sit in the doorway waiting for time

Slip through the door and watch my boots splash in the rain

I leave the comfort of my home

The world sways into one single colour as I wade through the

Hours smiling and sighing silently as

I watch as groups form and love unravels into kind friendships

I wait until the weekend begins only to feel the emptiness rise and fall as I fall asleep

The comfort and warmth of my home sometimes grows cold as the years go on

Reaching my fingertips and through my skin

Walking through class is sometimes dull

Constantly running to reach invisible goals

They set them high or as low as can be

They inflict many emotions among the school

Whether it is sad or envious or a blank stare as the white board is erased

The people who are above are silently caressed and those below are filled

With shameful gazes and heated arguments

Piled on the weight is hard full of praise and distrust the envy grows

Whether it is a shirt or a fight

Invisible walls grow and makes the world colder

The uneasiness fills the room as the pages are handed out

The chattering stops and the eyes follow as they

Easily devour the page wondering where they all went wrong

Was it section A or B? I guess they’ll never know until they get home

I watch as students succeed and feel the praise

I want to feel it too

I push away my coloured world and begin to

Work towards the invisible goals that determine our worth

I push thru happiness and friends to complete the task

To feel the success

To feel the fortune

Only to feel that I'm jealous of those around me again

Of course it's only a day

Of course it's only a year

Of course it’s only a test so why stress out?

Colours are always there like the snake of stress slithering up your spine

But when you find out how to work with that snake and use it

To your advantage then you know

The world is full of colours and it is pretty bright

While the stress is piled high is

The reward worth it?

Is it worth your time?

Your life?

Your tears?

If so you know that snake can help you succeed

But remember the snake still has its fangs and is ready to pounce at any moment

So take a second

And breathe

And allow yourself to feel the colours and the gray

Because gray is a shade

Yes, but gray is also all the colours combined

All the colours combined in a rainbow

Colours can mean many things

Opposite things really

Whether it is blue with tears of joy or fear

Or green with envy

Or red in spite

Just remember everything is temporary
