The Styrofoam Snowman

In my sleep, alone,

I looked over my shoulder and saw it.

The styrofoam snowman smiling at me in my dreams.

The one who comes to make me remember.

It felt like years since I saw you.

Like we were seperated by worlds,

But sometimes I still look over my shoulder,

Waiting to hear your laugh.

The snowman came, as always,

To remind me of our friendship

Of our smiles and tears

Of our joys and fears

The day when we were free

And we said our friendship will always be.

It would never shatter.

Not even the fires of Hell could melt it.

We took styrofoam, cloth, and a marker,

And we made each other a snowman,

Saying this will be a sign of our friendship.

Snow melts eventually, but styrofoam will not.

I still see your tears falling,

As you told me, "I don't want to leave."

And I hugged you saying goodbye

Just like I had to with everyone else.

My heart broke.

And even though it's been nearly a year,

I still can see my tears falling.

Falling, falling and never healing.

The styrofoam snowman comes each night to remind me.

Of a friend gone, nevermore for me to see,

But a friendship that will never melt,

No matter what fires we face.
