Subgrouping
When presented with the opportunity
to change anything,
it becomes almost overwhelming.
The modern world is like a young child’s attempt
at making food for the first time.
While the intention is often good,
the product becomes muddled with mismatched ingredients
that tend to cause more opposing flavors and textures
than complimenting ones.
Complimenting one another.
Accepting one another.
Appreciating one another is something we rarely do anymore.
There was a time.
Long ago.
In an almost unrecognizable world,
where there were superiors and inferiors.
There were MINORITIES and there were
the rest of US.
Somewhere in the fight for justice,
at some point when posters at riots screamed words in bold
TO RECLAIM the very words that caused so many tears,
this dynamic of this nation altered.
It went from two groups
to
every
kind
of
subgroup
imaginable.
Instead of uniting a nation with full acceptance,
we broke apart
into cliques of gender
race
weight
sexual preferences
“disabilities”
location
and so many
others.
Instead of two groups fighting one another, we
have now
branched apart into so many groups
we believe who we are is
an identity,
which is solely connected to what subgroup we most relate to.
What if we were to unite the
Gays
Latinos
Blacks
Women
Lesbians
“Disabled”
. . .
Under one over arching group?
Still fighting for freedom and rights
of others because we are the others.
People would help other people due to
the recognition that it was another
human being in need.
The categories and titles of subgroups would be
useless.
We would fight together for a better world,
instead of a better world for the [insert subgroup here].
At the end of the day, we all dream the same.
We all close our eyes
drift off
to a world of either perfection or horror
and then wake up for another day.
And at the end of the day.
We are
all
just Humans
