Suburbian Rhapsody

You know, It's not always easy for a white girl to make Slam poetry. I mean, it's not like I'm of a minority skin color which is a branding symbol of my society's loss and depravity. And, it's not like I'm from the city where High tops smack the broken dream paved streets of a muddled town. No, I'm from Suburbia. A place full of pudgy baby faces and gray-haired couples, where the only secret seems to be a Mothers special ingredient in soup (hint:it's Love), and Father's occupy their time mowing lawns and talking sports. Where's the Hype? Maybe that's why no newlyweds stay for long and teenagers take every chance they have to run. But, what of me, Still cramped in a suburban cocoon how am i to get out, without becoming like the town loon, shrieking , shouting out anti-suburbia phrases like: "death to Tupperware!" and "Stop Working on your car Old man, it's broke" all while leading a rebellion of sticky fingered Tots marching to their dooms with scoldings and spankings. OR, perhaps, I'll hide even further in and camouflage into the small but still recognizable Shadows where a few i know already dwell silent but WHispering... But,NO! those in the Shadows are whispering for me to get out, leave, to flee, to RUN fast over the the smooth sidewalk between the Ranch houses to the forgotten lore of the childhood playground and swing on that set, until my feet seem to be parallel with the setting sun and, I'll fly, Straight out of this congruent Hell-hole,past the ruins of the city, soaring forward and out of Earth's atmosphere, And, I'll meet that Sun, and we'll talk about life, love, perseverance, hate, desire, jealousy, the works. Then, when I'm done with the sun I'll float to the Stars and listen to their griefs and fears (whoever knew that a Star's constant twinkle was it's tears) Then, maybe, if time permits, I'll pause and listen to hear that glorious sound of the Universes angelic song and let it fill my body and lift me towards Heaven... But, right before i reach it, I will stop, and i will think of you good kind people and the now grown suburban babes becoming lost themselves and I'll come back. To Stay? Who knows--though, I will know the language of the Sun and Stars some things will still remain a mystery, and, y'know what? I think those mysteries are The greatest escape Of all.
