Suddenly I Can Feel

I’m not black

or Muslim or an immigrant

but I feel your pain

I haven’t lived a segregated life

or been the victim of racism

but I hold your suffering

I don’t feel your heartache

or the devastation it unfolds

but my heart is heavy

you write of loss

and suddenly I too live in intense disbelief

you write of betrayal

and suddenly I desire vengeance

you write

and suddenly I can feel everything
