Suffocating
A beating begins in the chest of another
Coupling the retreating of my heart to its own,
Rising expectations meets a growing terror,
At a sudden and too quickly developed love
My throat catches at the look
Eyes weighted with crushing affections
Desperation and blind adoration
Drawing “queen” and “love” from his lips
But before me kneels a vulture
Circling, closing, coming quick
Near and Near it comes to claim me.
Resistance sprawling, Fear growing thick
Wrapping ‘round it comes to take me
Surrounds me-pins me to a wall;
Suffocating, it suppressed me
Conditional love ties, anchoring me down
Visions of freedom plucked from a broken back
Cages cast on my horizons
Shallow love lurking in it’s ominous wrath
Demanding the sacrifice of my future’s ashes
I ran as far as my feet would take me
Dust and crystals in my wake.
The clock struck nine- but never twelve
A spell ran out and I had left it all behind.
