Summer
SUMMER by Camden Mason
Summer comes around but once a year.
As the temperature heats up you know it’s near.
Counting down the days until school is out.
Will Summer ever get here, you have your doubt.
Summer is Hot Dogs sizzling on a grill.
With watermelon and shaved ice, they make a great meal.
Fireworks on the Fourth of July.
Ice Cream, Lemonade and Mom’s apple pie.
Sleepovers with friends and staying up late.
Getting ready to go fishing don’t forget the bait.
Roasting marshmallows over an open fire,
talking about our favorite class ….. could it be choir?
Summer means Baseball practice till dark,
playing catch with friends and trips to the park.
You never get up early, you always sleep late,
cutting the grass and choirs that all can wait.
Swimming at the pool, splashing my friends
First one to the other side wins.
Playing Xbox on line for hours on end,
Checking my space, who wants to be my friend?
Vacation at Grandpa’s and seeing my cousins,
Grandma’s cookies baking, I eat them by the dozens.
Then one day it hits you while you’re out with your friends,
Summer won’t last forever it soon will end.
Summer must loose its place and give way to fall,
It’s a fight that can’t be won it heeds natures call.
The flowers must die the leaves fall away,
the sun will go down you must start a new day.
One more summer is taken, you have so few,
Summer goes away quickly like the morning dew.
Soon it’s off to school to start a new grade,
and the memories of Summer all start to fade.
So cherish your summers they go away to fast,
all too soon being a kid is a thing of the past.
