Summer

Day One

Last summer,Giggles bordered our words in coffee shops.

like feathers tickling our underbellies

I remember, your hand grazing the back of my neck

we smiled when we saw each other.

You were a freshmen at AU, and I was barely a senior

but the way mingled,

would have gotten us at least a 30 likes on facebook.

one for each day until you left.

Day 10

We were excited to see the Willis Tower

coming from a not so big town in the south

you told me “we call skyscrapers birds”

my laughter echoed from the top of the building

as you grabbed my hand thanking me for the experience.

Day 20

You met my mom, at her job in my town

on our way out she grabbed my arm and she told me

you reminded her of a mix between

“Black heath ledger and will smith”

Day 30

Your bus to Alabama leaves at 7:34

you couldn’t take a plan, because Auburn only had one tiny airport

and tickets to georgia were too expensive.

Your mom drove us to the bus station.

we were mingled in the back seat

I remember wishing we were closer than

the sewn together fabrics of our sleeveless shirts.

at the bus station we had no giggles.just

as peck goodbye.as the pink draw of his lips blemished my dark complexion
