Summer

The sea is frothing at the mouth of the beach

It licks the sand from beneath

The Box Jellyfish are bloated on shore

I poke one with a stick, in the hopes that

It will tell me what lies underwater

It belongs there

The sweltering heat strokes my face with each breeze

My hair whips around my face

I am waiting patiently

For the ocean to open up for me

To swallow me up

And steal the air from my lungs

To fill them with water

So that I too,

Can belong to the sea
