The Summer Adulthood Began

Not long ago

In a house small and cozy

A friend came to visit,

A man sweet and rosy.

He made me an offer

Hard to refuse,

But I had other plans

Ones I'd much rather choose.

I wanted a summer

Full of relaxation and play,

But now I was older,

It couldn't be that way.

He spoke of a job

At the Library it'd be,

And that's when I realized

I was an adult, you see.

No longer would summers be

Full of freedom and fun,

But of responsibility and

working and getting stuff done.

What would the future hold?

What would my life unveil?

I knew of nothing,

other than bills in the mail.

Adulthood is scary,

No walk in the park

But with hope for the future

I will leave my mark.
