Summer Bucket List

Summer Bucket List

By Justine M. Figueroa

Twelve years of school with no real story to tell.

It kind of makes me wonder what footprints I left behind in the sand.

Starting high school with a whole crowd of friends,

to graduate and shout “We made it!” with only three standing by my side.

It sparks an idea before we all have to go our separate ways and say good-bye.

Surely we cannot leave with no story to tell.

A list of ideas spring up at a common lunch table.

This list becomes our goal for our last summer together.

Activities such as camping at Carlyle Lake with no parental units,

getting out of our comfort zone and doing something risky,

and even talking to strangers just to meet new people.

One by one a check mark goes into that small box as the four of us live in every moment.

  • Cliff Jumping (without dying).

  • Night Swimming.

  • Fishing.

And the list continues!

We slowly create the perfect summer that will live on forever.

Finally, the last box receives a check and that is when I came to realize:

The Summer Bucket List became our awesome story.
